Nightlass Beats Golden Chest Garter Red was favourito for tho Maiden Race, but ho was beaten into third place in a.close iinish, the winner being Nightlass with . Golden Chest only half a. head away at. the post. Nightlass, Golden Ann and Mowgli were first lo show out ahead of Garter Red, Earl Colossus and Chief Ranger. There was not much alteration at tho far turn, where Golden Chest had moved up into fourth place and Chalice had headed Chief Ranger. Mowgli was in charge at tho homo turn, but Nightlass, followed by Golden Chest, Mowgli, Garter Red, Earl Colossus and Chief Ranger, was the order into the straight. In a good finish Nightlass hung on to beat Golden Chest by half a head and Garter Red was a length further back, ahead of Chief Ranger, who could not get through. Then came Earl Colossus, Trimdon, Jean Batten and Chalice.
Nightlass is the first of Night March’s progeny to win. Gold Cure Wins Nicely
Gold Cure was a short-priced favourito and he never gavo his backers any real cause for anxiety. He followed Midacre and Karangapai over the first fence, with Harvest Moon, Airforce and Invictus behind. Karangapai and Midacre led past the stands closely attended by Gold Cure and Harvest Moon, and there was a gap to Airforce ahead of Battle Ground, Spender, Invictus and Flockhart. The leaders speeded up going round' the turn, but Gold Cure jumped into second place at tho five and was in charge at the half-mile, with Midacre and Invictus in attendance and a gap of several lengths to Airforce, Arctic Star Gold Cure, ahead of Invictus, Midacre and Arctic Star, held a commanding lead at the bottom of the straight, and although Invictus closed on him over the last bit Gold Cure finished smoothly and he won by a length and a-half, Arctic_ Star being four lengths away from Invictus. Midacre was fourth, followed by Spender. Jubilee Song Wins Attractively
Jubilee Song was a good favourite for the Motuiti Hack, and he was in charge all tho way. Dorado inado a bid for victory when heads were turned for home, but could mako no impression, Jubilee Song winning very easily by close on threo lengths. False AVitncss and Matrimony were slow to begin, the early order being Lord Moutoa from Jubilco Song and Dorado. Inside a furlong Jubilco Song had charge and he showed the way to the straight, followed by Lord Moutoa and Dorado. Tho issue was never in doubt, Jubilco Song winning decisively from Dorado, with Lord Moutoa 2J lengths away third. Matrimony was fourth.
Davistock Boats Kompalong in Blanket
Finish There was a blanket finish in the Carnarvon Gold Cup race, and Davistock just managed to hang on long enough to beat one of tho outsiders, KompaVong, who covered extra, ground at the home turn and who was within a head of the winner at the post. It was a great finish and there were live horses almost in line as they flashed past the stands was Sanguine and Slippery began best and the order past the stands was Sanguine King and Gay Boy, followed by Manawatu, with Slippery, Person and Davistock in line next. They travelled down tho back in three lines, SSnguine King and Gay Boy being the pacemakers ahead of Lapel (fence), Manawatu, Davistock and Persen. - Ferseu lost ground at the far turn, where- Rompalong commenced to move round the fieid. Crossing the top : the order was Sanguine King, and-Gay Boy,- then Davistock, Lapel, Manawatu, Eminent and Eersen, with. Slippery last. Sanguine King then dropped out and Gay Boy showed the way into tho straight, followed by Davistock, Rompalong and Lapel. Davistock and Rompalong joined issue with the leader within the distance, and in a, thrilling finish Davistock got the verdict by half a head from Rompalong. Gay Boy was less than half a length away third and

The punters received a sot-back in the Awahou Hack, which was won by Wyndale at very long odds, and littlefancied candidates in Evasion and | Chaste dead-heated for second. Tauimau was favourite, but ho dropped out after being prominent to the home turn. Aussie Ha was second choice, but after being third into the straight he dropped out of tho picture. CouJiseation and Blue Tiger set the pace past tho stands with Chaste, Glenvane and Tnurnau next. Going into the back Blue Tiger had charge fromTaumau with Conliscation, Chaste and Wyndale following, and this order was the same at the far -■turn, whero Evasion had commenced to move forward from the rear of the field. Wyndale was in front when they turned for home, Bluo Tiger being in second place followed by Aussie Ra and Evasion, and in a thrilling finish Wyndale fought gamely to get the verdict by the best part of a length from the dead-heaters, Evasion and Chaste. Bluo Tiger was fourth, followed by Cloudy Hange and Aussio Ba. Hunting Lodge Wins Well
The public w'ent for Glenvane, Hunting Jay, l’ladie and Catalogue in the Robinson Handicap but Hunting Lodge took charge in tho straight and she won by a length from Glenvane. When the field had settled down Waste Land was setting the pace ahead of Royal Bengal, Hunting Lodge, Catalogue, Aiguille, Hunting Jay, Glenvane, Piadie and Walton Park. There was not much change going down the back, but Catalogue was iu second place behind Waste Land at the far turn. The leaders into the straight were Waste Land and Catalogue and they wore closely followed by Hunting Lodge, Hunting Jay, Aiguille'and Glenvane. limiting Lodge drew' away in tho run to the post, but had to bo ridden out to beat the fast-linishing Glenvane by a length. Then followed Catalogue and Hunting Jay at head .intervals, and the next home were Piadie and Walton Park.
Concluding Event to Bodyline Bodyline and Bazaino carried most money in tho concluding event, a five and a-half-furlong sprint. W'hen the barrier was released Lacey got caught up in tho tapes and, swinging round, ho tipped'his jockey over the fence and into the plantation. ißodylinc was the early leader; 'from BazainC . but within a fiirlong. Bazaine was in front, and they led across tho top well clear of Weather Step, ahead of Lord Mout.oa and Terry. Body lino was within easy ; distance of Bazaine when they ran to the straight, and as soon as heads were turned for home he ran past Bazaino and went ,on to win easily by a couple of lengths. There was a good tussle for second. Weather Step tackled aud headed Bazaine, but Terry came with a late run to beat Weather Step by half .a length. Bazaino was fourth, followed by Lord Moutoa.
