Wanganui Education Board

(Special to “Times.”) WANGANUI, Last Night. The August meeting of the Wanganui Education Hoard was held this afternoon. Present were Messrs E. P. Hemingway (chairman), J. K. Hurnblow, P. Munru, K. JDukcsuu, A. S. Coleman, Col. Whyte, Kev. U. King. A grant has been received from the department for metalling a portion ol school grounds at Poxlon District High School.

It was decided to hold over the matter of establishing a school at Mungunui until later m the year when it is probable that a very good school will be moved there.

The committee at Tangimoana asked that a pernulneiit school building bo erected. The matter was held over until, next meeting, ns Mr. Hemingway intends to visit the locality in the meantime and will report to the board. “The matter of grading schools on tile average roll number and in,, as at present on the average atlci lance, ” was brought before the Minister at a recent conference, and he promised tu give the mater every consideration. This matter was again brought up by the Bulls committee.

The architect recommended that a fuel shed bo erected at Pohangina. Three years ago the board decided to remove the asbestos tiles from the root of the main building at i'oxton and to cover the structure with iron. Onehall: was treated, and now the architect suggests that the remaining portion should be similarly dealt with. The estimated cost is £l5O, one-third of which is covered by subsidy. Colonel Whyte asked if it would be possible lo put two of the foldingdoors, which he understood were available, between two oi the rooms at College IStrect School, so that the room couiu be used for large meetings.—lt was decided to accede to the request. -Mr. Hemingway remarked that it was a distinct compliment to Dr. Elizabeth Gunn, that, she was selected to represent the Health Department at the medical conferences in Melbourne.
