Reconstruction of Kimbolton Road
SATISFACTORY PROGRESS While users of the main highway between Ghelteuliani and Kiwitea have cause for mental irritation over the existing condition of tho road it was suggested at yesterday's meeting of the Kiwitea County Council that while the reconstruction was in progress they must curb their patience and endure the inconvenience pending the permanent sealing of the highway. The persistent heavy rains have brought with them not only inconvenience to motorists using tho section of road in question, but to the contractors who had aimed at carrying out the work with a minimum of inconvenience to traffic. On the other hand the rain has materially aided the ready consolidation of the new formation, the level sections of which are in splendid order and give promise of providing for an excellent scaled surface. It is where the undulations are being removed to improve visibility that traffic is experiencing trouble as the cuttings necessary oblige traffic to negotiate a narrow. uneven surface not always very firm.
The council's consult iug engineer (Mr gladden, of Wellington) was in attendance yesterday, and in reporting ou the road expressed every '.ati.‘-fac-tion with the progress made. He mentioned Hint the condition of the road consequent upon the do usually heavy rains, had worried the contractors, who were aware that traffic was complaining. The conditions could not be avoided and the inconvenience was bui temporary. Mr gladden was satisfied that the progress to date gave promise of an excellent road when settling war due.
Councillors understood the position and expressed themselves as being quite satisfied with the work.
