Control of Rugby in Manawatu

Management Committee Deals ■ With Various Matters Arrangements Completed For Charity Day

Air A. M. Ongley (president) was in the chair at last evening’s meeting of tho management committco of tho Manawatu Rugby Union. Others present were Messrs K. W. Eglinton, J. R. Hardie, 11. J. Hickey, L. G. Cope, L. G. Berry, H. Bowler, C. G. Pearsc, J. A. Colquhoun, A. F. Hclleur, E. Clevcly and C. P. McAlcckan. An apology for absence was received from Air E. W. Low.

Correspondence

l/eilding Agricultural High School wero granted permission to play Scots College at Feilding to-morrow (Thursday). Tho Wanganui Rugby Union wrote confirming the Manawatu-Wanganui fifth grade representative match to be played at Spriggens’ park next Saturday, commencing at 1.30 p.m.—Tho act-ing-secretary (Mr P. O. Skoglund) reported that tho team was travelling by bus, leaving at 11.30 a.m., and that the team would assemble for gymnasium practice at 6.30 p.m. to-morrow. Tho Alayor (Mr A. E. Hansford) and Air J. Hodgens, wrote agreeing lo comply with tho suggestion that they should bo given “box” seats in next Saturday’s “wheelbarrow Derby.” The Eangitikci Rugby Union wrote regretting that it would be unable to arrange tho suggested game with the Manawatu Wednesday representatives. Horowhenua wrote asking the AlanaRugby Union to convey its sympathy to tho relatives of the Into Air L, Moffat. —It was resolved that Horowhenua’s request bo given effect to. It was resolved that tho £5 grant be forwarded Fcilding Agricultural High School.

Representative Blazers

Tho question of providing blazers for tho representative team was held over until next year and tho trend of the discussion was favourable to tho proposal. Photographs of the 1935 representative team are to bo taken at tho end of tho season and the selectors are to be asked to nominate the official team.

Wheelbarrow Derby

Details in connection with tho wheel barrow Derby wore finalised as far as possible. Messrs Hickey, Low and Skoglund were elected a committee. The president (Air Ongley) will be the judge and Air P. W. Aishcr tho starter, and tho event will commence shortly after 2 p.m. from the War Memorial, finishing some “moments” later in tho Showgrounds.

It was agreed that tho fixtures for last Saturday bo postponed until September 7, the suggestion coming from Mr Hickey, who explained that Marist (Wellington) was sending its strongest team to play St. Pat.’s on August 31.

Air Clevcly was appointed manager of the Alanawatu team to play Hawks’s Bay at Napier this coming Saturday The team will travel' by bus, leaving at 4 p.m. on Friday, returning on Sunday.

At tho suggestion of Mr Helleur it was resolved that tho curtain-raiser to tho Alanawatu-Wairarapa match, to be played in Palmerston North next Wednesday, be Pirates v. Kowhai. Tho primary schools’ representative team leaves for tho Wairarapa next Saturday, and their caps will be presented at tho station by Air Onglcy.

Competition Fixtures for Saturday In connection with tho competition fixtures for Saturday next, it was agreed that Feilding Old Boys-St. Patrick’s senior championship final should not bo played that day, the reason being the absence of players engaged in the representative game at Napier. SECONDARY SCHOOL MATCH AT NAPIER The Palmerston North High School first fifteen will meet Napier Boys’ High School to-morrow at McLean park, Napier, in the annual fixture for the Poison banner. Presented by Mr A. S. M. Poison, a former rector of the Napier Boys’ High School, the banner, which bears the coat of arms of the Napier School (worked by Mrs Poison) on ono side, and the Palmerston North Boys’ High School coat of arms on the reverse (worked by the late Mrs Vernon, wife of the first rector of the school), has been competed for on HI occasions, having-been won by the local school 18 times and by Napier on 12 occasions, ono game having been drawn. The team which will represent the Palmerston North School, the present holders of the banner, is as under: —
