SOME BRILLIANT BATTING

United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. LONDON, Aug. lU.

South Africa’s chances of winning tho Test cricket rubber against England by scoring at least a draw in tile final match of the scries were consolidated when play was continued at the Oval to-day. With only ouo day left England have yet to reach their opponents’ first innings score, ami there is little doubt that the second Test, which the South Africans won, will remain the only one to be completed.

Runs came much more freely to-day than oil Saturday, -JOB runs being scored for the loss of seven wickets as against 21)7 for six. During the morning Langton and Dalton attacked the English bowling and were instrumental in South Africa’s total being carried to 470. The South Africans appeared to be in a strong position when England had three wickets down for 08 runs, and Hammond and Lcyland were highly uncomfortable. The pair settled down, however, and dealt out severe punishment to tho bowling, adding 151 runs iu 105 minutes. Hammond was then stumped by the wicketkeeper after scoring 65.
