SOUTH PACIFIC EXHIBITION IN CITY?

May Be Consequence Of Aerial Development

A. AND P. ASSOCIATION PLANS FOR 1937

Those interested in the development of Palmerston North are already laying ambitious plans for an event which, if it ban be staged, will be historic in the existence of the city, and will be a major consequence of its nodal situation on the airways of the Dominion, Though of course wholly tentative at present, the scheme is to hold in Palmerston North in 1937 a mammoth South Pacific Exhibition, similar to the one in Dunedin in 1926. Business houses and others are being approached asking for their opinions on the feasibility of the project.

The germ has sprung from the secretary of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association, Mr. 11. E. KissLing. At a meeting on Monday of the finance conmiittco of the association, he suggested that the time was opportune for Palmerston North to organise an exhibition on similar lines to that, last held in Dunedin. He suggested 1937 as the year suitable for the event and pointed out that possibly the Winter Show could bo incorporated in tho exhibition.

It was .resolved, on the motion of Messrs. Carter and Hodder, that the secretary interview all bodies likely to be interested in promoting an exhibition, and to report back concerning the support likely to be forthcoming.

Aviation Will Help. Supplementing the minute- of tie finance committee a.t the meeting ot the general committee of the association, Mr. Ivissling said: There is a lot of interest centreing in Palmerston North at present, anu particularly an account of aviation developments and the activities of Union Airways and Pacific Airways. We might take advantage of the interest being concentrated on Palmerston North from outside by getting, to work on 'the chances of holding an exhibition. A voice: Would it be held in conjunction with the Winter Show" Mr. Ivissling: Possibly. It may bo necessary to put the Winter Show dates forward to April for that year to catch the good weather and ,the most suitable season for the farmers.

The matter was not pursued further at this stage, but the meeting expressed endorsement of what was being done.
