Old Cure for Freckles: Buttermilk is best, but if this is not easily obtainable sour milk may be used instead. If the freckles are bad gently rub a slice of lemon over the skin, let the moisture remain for fixe minutes, sponge off with rose water, then dab with cotton wool soaked in milk.

A Good Astringent Lotion: Mix a pinch of powdered benzoin with a gill of refined spirits cf wine and the same amount of toilet vinegar.

A Simple and Harmless Vegetable Colouring may be made from beetroot. Wash a small red beet, slice it into a clean double saucepan, just cover with water, and cook until soft. Strain the juice through line muslin, add a little rectified spirits of wine, and store in a stoppered bottle.
