New Zealand Milk At I¼d. Per Gallon?
MILK PRODUCERS’ AGITATION The milk producers of England and Scotland are agitating strongly and persistently for a quota on imported dairy products. At one meeting, Mr S. F. Gosney, secretary of the Creamery Proprietors' Association, spoke of the competition from overseas. He said: Home farmers have to compete with producers in New Zealand “who could not bo receiving more than lid per gallon for milk made into butter. ’ ’ Such loose talk is to be condemned! It, stirs up false ideas and endangers amicable relationship between the Dominions and the Motherland. Actually, on the past season, Nexv Zealand farmers supplying butter factories received approximately 5d a gallon for their milk. A gallon of milk weighs just over 101 lbs. At a 4.9 test this yields 41b.. of! butterfat, worth lOd per lb. The return ■ was therefore 5d per gallon. 1
