Friendly Societies

ORIENT LODGE (NO 42) 1.0.0. F. The fortnightly' meeting was held in the lodgo room, Church street, last Friday. N.G. Bro. K. Scales presided, and commented on the gratifying attendance, despite inclement weather. The visiting committee reported on visits to Bros. Dalton, Baldwin and Alarshall, who are still on the “sick list. ” Correspondence included a notifies tion from the District Lodge that the date for the ritual competition at Orient Lodge would be September 27. An invitation was received from Nopane Lodge for au Orient team to visit Rongotea on the 20th inst., and perform the initiation ceremony.—ln reference to this, it was replied that a full team would not be available at such short notice, but that several members would pay' a fraternal visit on that evening. Grand Lodge notified that Grand Lodge session would be postponed until 1937.

A challenge was issued to Acorn Lodge to play for the Crib Shield. A report was received from P.G. Bro. E. Persson on a visit to Encampment Lodge at Feilding.

A welcome was extended to a visitor, Bro. Latimer, of Star of Napier Lodge, who suitably replied. A fraternal visit was paid by a party from Rangiotu Lodge, who challenged Orient to a friendly game of carpet bowls after lodge business was over. Supper was served by Sisters Scales and Reilly, of Hinekoa Rebecca Lodge, who were accorded musical honours.
