“Political Eyewash” and
GUARANTEED PRICES CRITICISED
Per Press Association. HASTINGS, Aug. 19. “Political eyewash" and “humbug" were among tho terms used during the voicing of trenchant criticism at Saturday's meeting of shareholders of the Heretaunga Dairy Company of the proposal for guaranteed prices for dairy produce as enunciated by the Labour Party.
The chairman (Mr D. G. Begley) said he considered the proposals, which were impractical of application, would not stand investigation. It would be a system of inflation that would have a disastrous effect on the primary producers. Mr Begley expressed the hope that dairymen would not be swayed by ridiculous suggestions for lifting prices to fantastic levels, which would place an intolerable burden on the community.
A motion endorsing Mr Begley’s action in opposing guaranteed prices at the recent conference of the National Dairy Association at Palmerston North was carried unanimously by tho large attendance.
