Feilding Presbyterian Church

REPORTS FOR THE TEAR The following’are tho several reports iti connection with, tho activities of St. .Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Feilding, for the year ended Juno 30 last:— Session report: “Owing to health reasons, our minister was granted leavo of abseneo for threo months, his place being tilled by Rev. James Milne, M.A. whose ministry was greatly appreciated. In April, Mr. McDonald accepted a call to Ellerslie and was fittingly farewelled by one of the largest gatherings held in St. Paul’s hall when suitable expressions as to his valuable work in Feilding and sincere wishes for his future success at Ellerslie were voiced, and a tangible token of esteem was handed to him. During the vacancy the pulpit supply and work of the church has been efficiently carried on by Rev. F. A. Thompson. The session has to report that the charge will soon be ablo to welcome its elected minister.

The roll has been carefully purged and now stands at 221.”

Management committee: ‘•'Revenue receipts for the year ending June 30, .1934, were £564 7s uu. and the expenditure £6ll 11s 7d, being an excess of expenditure of £45 4s 4d. To adjust this £SO was added to tiro overdraft, which now stands at £l5O. The pipe organ has had a thorough overhaul and cleaning at a cost of £l6 10s. During the year wo lost tho services of Air. Tom Pago on his removal to Wellington. The farewell social to Rev. D. i;. and Airs, McDonald was very largely attended and great credit was due to Mr. G. T, Watts, the convener of the committee responsible for tho arrangements, The committee has received advico of a. bequest for church funds el: £SO from the late Airs. Nairn. The committee acknowledges this kindly thoughtfulness with gratitude. Thanks are due to tho building committee for much useful work during the year, to Air. Norman J. Burtnoiom'ew for his kindness in again acting as non. auditor and to all who have assisted in any way in the year’s activities.”

The choir: “Under the valued leadership of Air. G. Bartholomew, tho choir reports a very successful year, There is a membership of 23 with an average attendance at church services of justover 50 pier cent.”

Sunday .School: “Officers on roll, 15; averago attendance, 13; scholars on roll, girls 75, boys 49, total 324; aver■urge attendance 72. Infants on cradle roll 52. Children’s Day was celebrated, an appropriate address being given by Rev. D. Spence, while the singing of the children trained by Mr. G. Bartholomew and Miss Armour was highlyappreciated. Air. K. Ross, ALA.,, gave the school a very interesting address at the break-up 5 u .December, while Father Christmas paid his welcome annual visit to our primary department. On Sunday, April 14, wo farewclled Rev, and Mrs. D, R. McDonald, also Jean, Ken and Jim, all of whom wo were sincerely sorry to lose. Ou.r contributions to missions amount to £6 ISs sd. Tho continued loyal and unselfish work of our teachers and staff is worthy of special mention. ’ ’ Girls’ Auxiliary: “Tho Girls’ Auxiliary has a membership of 12 and an average attendance of seven. In December a small sale of Christinas gifts was held. During the year a donation of £1 was sent to tho women workers superannuation fund and 10s to Aliss Matthew’s Christmas gift.” P.W.M.U.: “The P.TV.AI.U. has had a successful year, an increase in membership and a rise of £lO in. income. The ladies waited on the congregation, £ll 12s 6d being received, including TV aiat-a. Iho collection a.t the annual -social and gift afternoon was £7 10s. Of the funds raised £6 has been allocated for native teacher, New Hebrides; £1 for Homo Alissions; £7 to women workers’ superannuation fund; £i 15s 4rl to China; £1 to the Tonga, .Synod box; £1 to the ’Training Institute, and £8 to the budget. At Christmas a sack of clothes and toys was sent to Sister Flora at Whakaka. Thanks arc due to tho Girls’ Auxiliary for continued good work; also the Busy Bees. Wo appreciate the efforts of all who have help-, ed, especially our president, Airs. Gosnell”

Young Women’s Bible Class: “Miss Irene Bummer relinquished the leadership of tho class on her marriage at the end of tho year. Miss M. Mayo took charge at the beginning of the year and good work has been done. The roil numbers 13, two new members being welcomed recently. Average attendance S.”

“The class has to report a successful year. Although, tho rolt number ha.been low the class has nevertheless held some very line meetings. At. tho end of last December, we were sorry to lose our leader, Mr. D. N. Ferguson, who left us to get married; but we were fortunate in securing the services ot Mr. T. Pagan, a veteran B.C. man, as leader,' ■' *
