The landing was made In a paddock, the property of Mr E. O. Bond. However, after lubricants were procured, the plane left for its destination. By then quite a lot of curious people had gathered to admire this uncommon visitor.

Coster Ball. Despite the boisterous and wintry conditions that prevailed and tho numerous counter attractions in the surrounding 'districts, the coster ball promoted by the Awahuri Old Pupils’ Association last Wednesday night, proved a very successful function and there is no doubt that tho association’s funds will benefit substantially. The untiring efforts of tho committee were not in vain, and the success of the evening was largely due in their onthusiasm and co-operation. Special mention must be made of those peoplo who were not old pupils but wno are giving of their best to assist the association to further its aims. The enthusiasm displayed by these people is worthy oi recommendation, and no doubt the association more than appreciates their gratuitous services. They were Mesdames .T. M. Giles, l'\ Humphries, and J. Hastie. Should old pupils who have not yet joined up follow the example of these people, then the ambitions of the association will more than be realised. The hail was decorated with greenery, while the dance music was supplied by a' professionai orchestra. Modern and old-time dancing was tho order of the programme, although preference for oid-time was in evidence. Messrs C. Ilickford and 1. Sutherland who were efficient M’sG. made things go with a happy swing throughout. A feature of the evening was a coster supper which was carried round on dinner waggons by members of the association. At a suitable juncture tho president of the association, Mr J. M. Giles, thanked the largo assemblage for its patronage and also stressed the point that without their support the success ol the evening would not have been achieved. He expressed the hopes that an enjoyable evening would be spent by all. Old pupils from a very wide area were present, while several apologies were received for non attendance. Dancing was carried on till the early hours of the morning. The drawing of the framed picture resulted, as follows; Mrs J, Hastie (Awahuri) 1, Mrs J. Oke (Awahuri) 2. Novelty dances were won as follows: Lucky spot, Mr A. Karipa and partner; Monte Carlo, Mr White and Miss M. Dear; lucky Gay Gordons, Miss Dear and Mr Iladomski.

General and Personal. Tho weather had been ideal tiil a day or two ago when wintry conditions made thinsg very unpleasant. Tho Oroua river has been in high flood on two or three occasions lately, and tho getting out oi metal is proving a problem. Advice has been received that tho infant son of Mr and Mrs J. Merritt, who was transferred to hospital in a very serious condition, has taken a turn Xoi The friends of Mr W. A. Salt will be glad to learn of his progress after being confined to liis bed suffering from acute influenza. Now that lambs are making tlieir appearance, sheep farmers, like cow farmers, are well into their seasonal routine.
