Bright Sunshine Favours Winter Racing

SOMBRE FROCKING AT AWAPUNI. Bright sunshine favoured tho winter meeting of tho Manawatu Racing Club, held at Awapuni on Saturday, and tempted many feminine patrons to enjoy a good day’s sport. It was nevertheless a day for rvarm coats and many handsome furs were given an airing which, although much admired, tended to mako the scene on tho lawns rather a sombre one. Tailored suits were much in evidence and these with gay scarves and occasional brightly-hucd felt hats provided the only touch of colour. The Tararaas presented an entrancing sight, misty blue to tho north, snow-clad in the south, in the foreground tho dark green of a belt of pines, interspersed with wattles in their golden glory making a lovely splash of colour. Tho president, Mr. C. Louisson, offered the usual gonerous hospitality at lunch and afternoon tea to many visitors and in the absence of Mrs. Louisson, who was indisposed, Mrs. F. S. MeEao. acted as hostess, wearing a tunic suit of navy blue, her navy felt hat having a green mount. Miss Betty McEae woro a smart tailored suit of beigo and brown cloth, a jumper of black velvet and black velvet plateau beret.
