Rutherford to be Sentenced on Monday
IN RESPECT TO THEFT CHARGES
In tho Supreme Court at Palmerston North yesterday morning Mr Justice Blair intimated that Joint George Rutherford, a traveller, aged 45, who had been found guilty ou two charges of theft this week, would be sentenced by him on Monday morning at ten o’clock.
The Crown solicitor (Mr 11. R. Cooper) had explained that lie was authorised to give an undertaking that a nolle prosequi would be entered in irespect of the five charges on which ,tho jury had disagreed. Permission for a new trial ou the charges of alleged false pretences had been sought the previous day by Mr Cooper, who had intimated that he would have to consult the SolicitorGeneral as to whether a new prosecution should be proceeded with, after which a date for a new trial could be fixed, if necessary.
