A woniau passenger ou the Royal Mail liner Aorangi dropped a small handbag overboard shortly before the vessel sailed for Vancouver recently. She was leaning on the ship’s rail, when the bag slipped from her hand. Before it sank tho bag opened, and the woman’s passport fell out and floated near tho wharf, where it was recovered by one of tho ship's quartermasters with a bucket attached to a rope. The bag and the remainder of the contents, which included a small sum of money, were lost.
Tho honour of having a volurno of her poems accepted by Macmillan and Co., Ltd., for inclusion in their "Contemporary Modern Poets,” lias fallen to Iris Wilkinson, the New Zealand writer, who is better known under the
nom-de-plum of Robin Hyde—the first, j New Zealander' so honoured. This clever young person, who is still in her I twenties, started her career as a journalist at the age of 16. A few years 1 ago she published her first book of poems, “Tho DcsoJato Star.” “Jour-
nalese,” published last year, caused quite a stir with its frank and entertaining disclosures concerning , wellknown people.
