Additional Postal Facilities

FEUDING TO OUTSIDE CENTRES. USE OF BUS SERVICE APPROVED. Arising out of the representations made at. a recent meeting of the Fcilding Chamber of Commerce, the Direc-tor-General of tho Post and Telegraph Department has approved of an additional outward mail despatch from Feildiug to Palmerston North daily per motor bus. This announcement was made yesterday by the Feildiug Postmaster, Mr. J. B. Purcell, who stated that the additional service would operate as from August 3. next. Tho closing time of the mail at tho Fcilding Post Office would be 10.45 a.in. (late fee 10.55 a.m.), while registered mail would be received for this despatch up to 10.30 a.m. The mail would bo sent forward by the 11 a.m. bus from Fcilding. The principal advantage of this additional service is that business houses would obtain a quicker connection than that offered by the existing outward mails south which close at 9 a.m. and at 2.15 p.m. As from August 1 mails for Palmerston North and tho East Coast, will leave Foilding at 11 a.m. and connect with the Napier express at Palmerston North and would be received in time for the afternoon delivery in Palmerston North.

In bringing the matter before the Feilding Chamber of Commerce, Mr. A. ,T. Humphreys stated that experience had satisfied business houses that an improved outward mail service was needed and the hourly bus service between Feilding and Palmerston North should be availed of. At times it often took two days to get a reply to a letter sent to Palmerston North and this was unreasonable-when the facilities available, for. a quicker despatch wero realised.

The decision of the Post and Telegraph Department to avail itself of the regular bus service between Feilding and Palmerston North is to be commended and will certainly be appreciated by Feilding business houses.
