Outstanding Winter Show
CONGRATULATIONS BY MINISTER POR AGRICULTURE. “It gave mo great pleasure to bo present; and to open the recent Winter Show,” stated Hon. C. E. Macmillan (Minister i'or Agriculture) in a letter to the Manawatu A. and P. Association which -was before the general committee of that body yesterday. “If 1 may be permitted to say so,” the Minister added, “I think the show was an outstanding one in every aspect, it being comprehensive in every way. Having some knowledge of functions of this sort. I know that such can be attained only by the close cooperation of various officers under able direction. In this respect the association' is undoubtedly very fortunate.” The Minister concluded by expressing good wishes for the future. The suggestion that the time was opportune for the Department of Agriculture to be approached with a view to staging an exhibit, was made by the secretary (Mr. 11. Ivissling). The president (Mr. Jos. Batehclar), the secretary and Mr. J. J. Stevenson were deputed to approach the Minister in regard to a departmental display. Congratulations on the success of the show, with thanks for courtesies extended, were received from various quarters. The Wellington Camera Club wrote thanking the association for tko care given photographs in returning them to exhibitors, and congratulating the association on the excellence of the show.
Mr. L. .T. AVild (president of the Royal Agricultural Society) wrote congratulating the association on holding its best winter show for a good number of years.
Tho "Wellington Manufacturers’ Association advised that two of its members had visited the show and had been very much impressed at the efficient manner in which it was run, a pleasing feature being tho hospitality extended to visitors.
The New Zealand Institute for the Blind wrote thanking the association for free space and lighting at the show, mentioning that the institute s stall had been a splendid success.. A vote of thanks was received from (he Mauawatu Basketball Association, which expressed appreciation of courtesies extended, enabling the basketball match to be a success. Thanks for the arrangements in regard to the Rugby match between Palmerston North Boys ’ High School and Tc Ante College were received from the rector of the former institution. The New Zealand Cocker Spaniel Club forwarded a donation of £1 Is to the association’s fund in appreciation of courtesies shown lo them. Votes of thanks were accorded by (ho general committee to all who had assisted in making the show a success, particular reference being made to the v.-ork of the Women’s Institutes.
Representations made by the Napier Borough Council over a year ago, asking tho British Admiralty for the bell of°H.M.S. Veronica as an earthquake souvenir, have at last borne fruit. The council is in receipt of advice to the effect that the bell and name plate of the vessel''will be presented by the commanding officer of JI.M.S. Leith when that vessel visits Napier noxi November.
