COUNTY COUNCIL’S TRIBUTE “We shall all look upou his friendship as one of our cherished memories,” stated Mr. W. E. Barber (chairman) at yesterday’s meeting of tho .Manawatu County Council, when referring to thi loss the district had sustained in the passing of Mr. F. J. McKelvie. ‘ * His loss is great to us and to the countv but to his family the gap can never t filled,” Air. Barber added when moving a motion of Sympathy. “Although of a retiring disposition, his wido experience and ripe judgment was of the utmost value in tho council’s deliberations, particularly ou financial matters. His genial character aud imperturbable good nature brought him friends wherever he went as was evidenced by the number who followed his remains to his last resting place.” The motion passed- by the council <sead as follows:—“That tho council place on record the deep souse of loss that the whole community feels at the passing of the late Cr. James AlcKelvie and also its high appreciation of the long and valued services he has rendered the ratepayers of the Manaw; 0. county both as a councillor and as a settler. To the family tho council expresses its sincere and heartfelt sympathy in their irreparable loss.” From the Kairanga County Council came a message of sympathy in the death of Cr. J. F. AlcKelvie. A vote of condolence with the relatives of the late Air. J. F. McKelvie, of Carnarvon, was passed by the general committee of tho Alanawatu A and I*. Association yesterday. The president (Air. Jos. Batchelar; stated that Air. AlcKelvie had been a very active member of the association, a familiar figure in the ring, a prominent exhibitor of fat stock and responsible for fine displays of vegetables, at the Winter Shows.
