--.JRACINCr. AT LEVIN TO-DAY. * SPLENDID PIELDS ARE CARDED. PROSPECTS. The Levin Racing Club's extra meeting is being held to-day. The course is likely to be soft but it should provide fair winter going and as splendid acceptances have been carded for each and every event, the racing should be particularly interesting. The betting will be conducted on the single poor system with two dividends where there are more than four starters. The iirst race is timed to start at 11.45 and the programme to be completed at 3.50. Following are the prospects and fields:—
There are seventeen acceptors for the maiden event, the first race on the card, and, as usual, quite a number of those engaged will have to be taken on trust. There is every chance there will be an upset, but three horses likely to be well supported are Garter Red, Happy Hunting, Popette. Then follows ihe Waitarere Hack and .Hunters’ Steeplechase which should provide an excellent contest over 2£ miles. Pourteen have bceu carded but it is likely that the field will be reduced before starting time. Cardhu is a safe jumper and he appears to have the best credentials of the under 10 stoners, but the public will probably look, to the top of the card for the winner with the betting pointing to Diamond, Invictus, Transact.
Of those accepted for the Heatherlea Hack, Bodyline, Unseen, Solaria, Leprechaun, Gay Boy, Whetuma and Sundancer claim a later engagement. It is sure to be a good race, however, and the issue is open, The public may give most support to Dollar Bill, Gay Boy, Bodyline. Next on the list is the Koputaroa Handicap, the open seven furlong event, which has attracted a fair class field. The issue is particularly open and the betting is bound to take a. wide range. The punters, however, may elect to give most support to Hunting Lodge, Carfex, Miss Hushabye. Round Score has pride of place in che Grand Hack Cup and he will have plenty of friends. Arctic King won two races at the Otaki meeting and this will not be overlooked. Others likely to command respect are ManawatiA, Reipar, Tupurangi, Kurapae and Hunting Bag, but the betting may point to Kurapae, . Round Score, Arctie King. Of those accepted for the Ihakara Hapk’Hq^'di ca ;E;.^- e -iPA r i " Solaria, Gay Boy, Leprechaun, Whetuma and Eka Tere claim prior engagements and the field is likely to be reduced somewhat. Three that may make appeal over the distance are —.-. Pukeko, - Gay Boy, '— Reipar. The day will conclude with the Kimberley Hack, which has drawn a field of a dozen with Unseen, from Wingatui, at the head of the handicap. It is a five furlong flutter and barrier positions and the luck of the start are bound to have a bearing on the resuit. There will be no time lost once the tapes go up and the favourite may como from Bazaine, Unseen, Grand Score. RIDING ENGAGEMENTS. J, McMaliy’s mounts at Levin include Kitty Quinn, Midacre and Padnos.
SCRATCHING POSTED. Colenso has been scratched for the Heatherlea Hack.
