Halcombe

From Our Own Correspondent, Hockey.

On Wednesday tne xfalcombe ladies' team met and defeated the United combination by two goals to one. The game, which was played at Halcombe, was an interesting contest and drew quite a crowd of spectators. Tho homo team could field only nine players and it speaks well for them that despito this handicap they were able to defeat tho visitors. At half-time the score was 2—l in Halcombe’s favour. The nine players, having established a lead, held grimly to their advantage and successfully kepi their opponents at bay, though they were unable to add to their score. The game ended without further goals being scored. Messrs R. Searancke and T. Iwikau refereed.

The Halcombe team is now showing improved form and should have an excellent chance of pulling off tiie championship. _ , . Flaying at Tutaenui the Tokorangl ladies’ team defeated the homo team by ono goal to nil. Tokorangi experience great difficulty in fielding a full eleven, and every week sees the unfortunates in charge combing tho district for players. Tho position should be better next year, however, as some promising players at present attending school will then he available.

Birthday Party. On Friday evening last Miss Aileen Managli gave a delightful little party at her homo in honour of Miss Clara Rogcis birthday. Hr G. Winton is spending a holiday in the Hawke’s Bay district. Mrs Anderson senior is spending a holiday in Carterton, where she is visiting her mother. General.

Lambs are now beginning to make their appearance in tho district, at least one being three weeks old while another farmer has quite a number. Tho weather for the past week lias been most unpleasant with cold winds and frequent showers, while the heavy rain on Tuesday caused quite a lot of local flooding, the tennis court again hems under water for a time.
