A pleasant Sunday afternoon ■was spent in Galway city in connection with the unveiling of a statue commemorating Padraig O’Conaire, scholar, author and philosopher, hut the gravity of the proceedings was upset hy the discovery that a practical joker of O’Duft'yitc leanings had clad the statue in a blue shirt. The meeting had barely composed itself when the platform bearing President de Valera and thirty other notables collapsed, precipitating them in a struggling heap. Nobody was seriously hurt. President de Valera was unhurt.
