TRIED TO PASS RANSOM MONEY United Press Association.—Bv electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Monday, 10.20 p.m. WASHINGTON, June 9. Mr J. Edgar Hoover announced on Sunday night that a couple giving the names of Mr and Mrs Herman M Waley, of Salt Lake City, Utah, were arrested and confessed to the kidnapping of the nine-year-old son of the lumber king, Mr Weyerhaeuser. They also involved William Mahan, ownef of the automobile abandoned at Butte Montana, on Sunday, containing 15,000 dollars of the ransom payment. An intensive search immediately started for Mahan. The criminal records of tho Waleys and Mahan, if any, are not revealed. Mrs Waley was caught attempting to pass a bill paid among the ransom money, which totalled 1100,000 dollars.
