1 Eotarian W. S. Carter presided yesterday at the meeting of tho Palmerston North Rotary Club, when the speaker was professor S. F. Hunter, of Knox College, Dunedin. Visitors welcomed were Messrs. J. F. Knight (Newbury), J. Nairn (Fcilding), W. B. Tcnnent (P.N.), Dr W. M. Smith (P.N.), E. Bury (P.N.), A. Crooks ' (Hastings), J. G. Crooks (P.N.), F. Trelawn (Wanganui). Thanks to . the speaker were conveyed by Itotarian C. N. Rubono.

Considering that the district was bound to progress, and that the school would in tho future be iu oven more vital need of an assembly hall than at present, the Hokowhitu School committee decided last night to establish a trust account for the specific objective of erecting an assembly hall. The account will be opened a nucleus of £2. Members were in entire agreement that tho hall was a necessary adjunct of school life.

At the-Winter Show on June 19 a hockey match, Manawatu versus Wellington, is to bo staged. Tho following players have been selected to train for Manawatu: Goal, L. Hart; backs, J. Eckerslcy, J. Sutton, K. Driukwater; halves, W. Burne, G. Itowse, T. Packer; forwards, K. Struthers, J. Morgan, H. Lawry, It. Hoare, L. Montcith, D. O’Brien. Tho players will practise at Takaro park this morning (June II) and Thursday, Juno 13, at 6.30 a.m.
