Austin (president) presided over a meeting of the Foxton Brownie committee. It was decided that the Girl Guides sliolud be started next week and that they be under the charge of Miss G. Allen (captain) and Miss Lapworth (lieutenant), six of the Brownies having now reached Girl Guide standard. After weleomng Misses Allen and Lapworth, the president said how pleased the comnutteo was that someone had come forward to tako charge of the Girl Guido movement. It was decided to hold a shop day in the near future with a view to raising funds for the Girl Guides. Licensing Committee. The Manawatu Licensing Committee held their annual meeting in the Poxton courthouse on Thursday. Present were Messrs. J. H. Salmon, S.M. (chairman), R. Bryant, J. K. Oornblow, J. W. Walker, .1. Curran and J. 11. Perron. The following renewals of licenses were granted:—James Curran, Albion Hotel, Shannon; Edward Dwyer (Mr. Mackay), Junction Hotel. Sanson; M. M. O'Reillv, Club Hotel, Shannon; L. J. i'ltzgeald (Mr. Todd), Levin Hotel. Levin; William George Rundle (Mr. Todd), Grand Hotel. Levin; P. J. Barry (Mi. Bergin), Family Hotel, 1< oxton, C. Price (Mr. Mackay), Criterion Hotel, Bulls’ W. Kirkland (Mr. Bergin), Whvte's Hotel, Foxton; ,T. S. Shorthouse, Post Ohieo Hotel, Poxton, subject to certain work being carried out within six months to the satisfaction or the health officer; E. M. Gilese (Mr. Mackay), to George \alentme Jacksou, was granted.
