followed by Iluppy Hunting, Garter Red, Croon and Meritor. In the run to the judge Arouse was never threatened and he won nicely by one and ahalf lengths from Garter Red, who finished well to beat Happy Hunting by the best part of a length. The placed horses were well clear of Golden Chest, ahead of Kia Tina, Apopo, Ilinepun', Croon and Meritor. Backers of Arouse on the place machine had to be content with a return less than the original outlay. Diamond Pays a False Price Diamond was in front over the first fence and stayed there for the rest of the journey. Going through the straight for the first time Diamond was leading Pango, Saltspray, Treasure Hunt, Manawatu, luvictus, Count Roussillon and Arctic Star. The order was the same across (he back and at the far turn Diamond was three lengths clear of Pango, with Manawatu and Saltspray together, next, then Arctic Star and Invictus. The last-named made a run three furlongs from home, but could not sustain it, and Diamond turned for home first, followed by Manawatu, Saltspray, Invictus and Arctic Star. Pango had dropped out, and Diamond was holding Manawatu safely when Saltspray came with >x fast run to get second money, a neck away from Diamond, with Manawatu half a length back. Arctic Star was fourth, close up, then Invictus and Count Roussillon. Saltspray appeared unlucky not to win, for ho was going much faster than the others at the finish. Gay Boy Pays a Price

The public went for Bodyliuo and Ethiop in the Himalaugi Hack Handicap. Bodyl’ine looked to have the race won a furlong from home, but Gay Boy finished with a nico run to win by a neck from Body line, ■with Note Issue in third place a half-length further back. The early order was Bodyline, Korcroa, Ethiop, Vivienne, Dick Whittington, Note Issue and Whctuma. Gay Boy was last away, having taken the tape. Dick Whittington soon joined Bodyliuo, and the pair raced together across tho top and into the straight, where Gay JBoy and Ethiop were the nearest of the others ahead of Korcroa and Note Issue. The finish was a good one and Bodyliuo just failed to withstand the challenge by Gay Boy. Note Issue finished fast into third place. Ethiop was fourth, followed by Whctuma and Dick Whittington. Eminent Goes One Better

Eminent was second in the Timi Kara Alemorial .at Lovin, and improved to win the Boston Cup with a nice run from the homo turn. Passing tho stand Full Throttle was followed by Kurapae and Ivorokio, with Boudoir, Lapel and Davistoek, Lady Ronald and Eminent next. Ivurapae had charge before they turned into the back, and at the halfmile he was four lengths clear of Full Throttle, with Davistoek, Lapel, Eminent and Boudoir next. Eminent, Davistock and Lapel, Boudoir, Bull Throttle and Walton Park followed Kurapae into tho straight, where Eminent soon ran past the leader. Then Boudoir challenged, but Eminent, finishing very solidly, won by a length from Boudoir. Lapel, two lengths away, was followed by Lady Ronald, Walton Park and Kurapae, then Davistoek, Bull Throttle and Ivorokio. Aussie Ra Just Beats Lord Moutoa

McFarlane). Won by half a length; two lengths. Time, 1.10 1-5. (Winner trained by owner, Masterton.) Arouse Beats Garter Red The public went for Happy Hunting and Arouse in the maiden event, which proved a good thing for Arouse. Puru( Manuele, Golden Chest and Apopo were left, the early leader being Hinepuni from Croon, Meritor, Arouse, Kitty ■Quinn, Happy Hunting and Garter Bed. Within a furlong, however, Arouse was in charge, and he fed across the top and into the straight,

There was a great finish in the Moutoa Hack, and Aussie Ea had to produce his best to beat Lord Moutoa. V/hetuma was the leader at the start, and he was followed out of the straight by Aussie Ea, Brigadore, Jubilee Song, Waitohu and Lord Moutoa. Jubilee Song displaced Whctuma rounding the turn, and he was first into the back followed by Gay Boy, who had gone up fast, Aussie Ea, Brigadore, Lord Moutoa, Whctuma, Joystick, Waitohu and Tupurangi. Gay Boy was the pacemaker passing the six, and haled across the top and into the straight with Lord Moutoa, Tupurangi, Jubilee Song, Aussie Ea, Joystick and Whetuma following. As soon as heads vveer turned for home Lord Moutoa challenged Gay Boy, Lord Moutoa was in front 50 yards from the post, and he was then challenged by Aussie Ra, and in a punishing finish Aussie Ea closed up the gap and won by a nose from Lord Moutoa, with Gay Bov a length further aawy. Jubilee Song was fourth ahead of Tupurangi and Wlietuma, and there was a gap to the others. Four-Horse Race The Kebbell Memorial was a four horse race for which Croupier was the favourite. The Tiger started with his usual brilliance and when they had gone a furlong ho was clear of Hunting Lodge and Carfex. They ran in this order to the far turn, where Hunting Lodge ranged up alongside. The Tiger, who was done with, at the home turn, was still in second place. Once heads were turned for home Cartex and Croupier .set out after. Hunting Lodge, but the latter finished solidly and was still a length, ahead of Carfex when the judge was reached. Croupier was a long neck away from Carfex. Dollar Bill Beats Debut All started iu the concluding event, the six-horse field getting away to an even start. After the race for positions Merlyn took Up the role of pacemaker from Debut, Merry Ruler, Dick Whittington, Dollar Bill and Waste

Land. At the far turn Debut joined Merlyn jn the van and they were a. couple of lengths ahead of Merry Ruler, Dollar Bill and Diel; Whittington crossing the top. Dollar Bill made a forward move as they raced to the home turn and he was on terms with Debtft just ahead of Merlyn as they swung into the straight. In the run to the judge Debut stuck on well but Dollar Bill had his measure, winning by half a length. Merlyn was two lengths back, followed by Waste Land and Merry Ruler. Chinese System Worked Out at Foxton It is said there are upwards of a hundred thousand people walking the streets of London through a rooted objection to leading trumps, but There must be just as many other vagabonds who reached their lowly state because they used the wrong racing system on the right day. All “infallible" systems are good on the right day, but the secret of really successful punting is tho ability to pick the right day. Some there arc who pin their faith to stable information, but there is so much of this flying about a course that by the time he has collected all of it the would-be punter is no better oil than when he started. If he does happen to have a bet he does nut have to wait very long before he realises he backed the wrong stable. Then there is the system whereby the winners are found by sticking a pin through tho book. Unfortunately for the punters who favour this one, the eyes must be shut when the pin is put through the book, and the chance of pric king a hand is possibly the reason why it is so hard to put the pin through in the right place. The system to use at Foxton, however, was the Chinese one, and enthusiasts who exploited this were not to be seen among those who had to walk home. In the first race Arouse, the winner, was A'o. 1 on the card. In the second it was the fourth letter of the alphabet which indicated Diamond, another winner, incidentally at a false price. The third race brought Bodyline, the second horse, with another profitable investment. In the Cup it was A, B, C, D, and E for Eminent, another winner at a snappy price. The fifth and sixth w.ero not so good, but Dollar Bill was in position on the card to give the "Chinese" punters a winner for the concluding race.
