Control of Hockey
MANAWATU EXECUTIVE MEETS The management committee of the Manawatu Hockey Association met last evening, when thcro wero present Messrs N. J. Ellison (chairman), C. S. Lawson, N. C. Dixon,-11. Byers, C. E. Downes, E. McLaehlan, G. Smith, I. Gerrand, W. 11. Watson,and E. L. C. Aitcliison. Phoenix Club applied for the registration of 11. Carr and L. McQueen as junior players. —Granted. The company with whom the association effected a policy against wet weather for tlio Indian match forwarded a cheque for £250. The chairman congratulated the executive and others for the -wholehearted way they had co-opcrated to make the match with the Indian team the success it was.
On the recommendation of the financo committee, a grant of £2 10s was made Massey College for use of a playing area. A special vote of thanks was passed to Mr A. Mclvegg for gratuitous professional services rendered Mrs Doctoi, wife of the manager of the Indian team, while in Palmerston North. The selector was asked to select a team to play against W cllington representatives during the winter show. A grant was made to the secretary (Mr Fitzgerald) for what were described as splendid services given to the association in connection with the match with the Indian team. In connection with the profits from the match with the Indian team, the finance committee was instructed to bring down a report as to how best the money could bo allocated, and Messrs Aitchison and Wilson were asked to assist tho committee with their suggestions. A request camo from tho Broadway Club asking for consideration of its application for a reduction iu the fee charged its second senior team, lhe application was held over till after the finance committee reports on tho best allocation of tho profits from the Indian match. The finance committee was recommended to give favourable consideration to getting past and present hockey players, and others interested iu the game, together at a social gathering. It was thought much could bo accomplished in this manner in popularising the game. The next meeting of tho executive will bo held on Tuesday, June 18, at 7 p.m. It was decided to cease playing games on tho Sportsground owing to the boggy nature of the area.
