To Meet N.R.A. Crisis
Power to PresidentTo Prescribe Codes RESOLUTION TO GO BEFORE CONGRESS United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Friday, 7.45 p.m. WASHINGTON. June G. Mr. Roosevelt met the N.E.A. erisis to-day by a decision to press a simple resolution through Congress, extending the life of the Recovery Act from June 16 to June 1. 1936. with a clause giving the President power to approve or prescribe codes and enforce them. Designed to meet the Supremo Court's constitutional objections, the resolution was immediately approved by a House committee, but to-day the American Federation of Labour started a counter-attack and issued a statement declaring that adoption of an emasculated N.R.A. “was a surrender to the opponents of national recovery." It said the federation would take the light for a new Recovery Act to the people, indicating that it would sponsor a constitutional amendment to allow the Government to carry out its original programme. The federation also issued a report declaring that at least 1,000,000 workers had suffered wagecuts or increases in working hours since the Seheehter decision, which they interpreted as tho beginning of a collapse of the existing wage structure.
