Victoria’s Centenary Celebrations Ending ANNIVERSARY OF LANDING OF MELBOURNE’S FOUNDER United Press Association.— By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Friday, S pan. MELBOURNE, June 7. The culmination of Victoria’s Centenary celebrations began to-day, when the 100th anniversary of the landing of John Batman, founder of Melbourne, was eolebrated. A special meeting of the City Council was held, when, for the iirst time in history, the councillors wore picturesque Windsor uniforms. Speeches expressed pride at the honourable and progressive record of 100 years, and urged adequate town-planning measures to meet the requirements of the future. It is expected that, by the end of the next 100 years, Melbourne will have 3,000,000 people. Tho council meeting was attended by the Governor, the Premier and members of Parliament. A civic luncheon followed.
The proceedings will end to-morrow with a pageant, a procession, a choral ceremonv and fireworks.
