Golf Links

(To the Editor.) Sir—ls tho game of golf the most important matter in. life, or is one’s livelihood of more moment? I "uas more than surprised to sec by tho report of the City Council that an attempt was made by some councillors to set aside for ono section of tho comriiunity an area of !)0-odd acres so that the ‘‘gentlemen of leisure” may have plenty of room to play. The fact of the land being occupied by persons as their homes and possibly as a means of livelihood seems to be of less importance to the City Council than to the ratepayers. Surely we have enough golf clubs in the city already. Why should the ratepayers provide this targe area of good land at a rental of about one-third of its value merely to pander to the requirements of those suffering from the prevailing ‘‘golf disease”?—l am, etc., RATEPAYER.
