HOOLIGANS AT WRESTLING
PLAIN CLOTHES POLICE TO CHECK THEM
Hooligans have made more trouble than enough at wrestling matches in Johannesburg, and the Transvaal .National Sporting Club held a special meeting about it to discuss methods of controlling them. Fortunately, the hooligan type have been very much in (he minority, but they have been able to make a lot of trouble for those there to enjoy the entertainment. It was decided to enlist the aid of the police and iu future men in plain clothes will be stationed throughout the audience aud drastic action will bo taken against anyone interfering in any wav with the pleasure of others. The committee has also laid it down that there will be no toleration of interference with the referee by the contestants in wrestling matches as has been practised, in other countries. The refereed acting for the T.N.S.C. are ail bonarary officials who arc there to control the bouts and not. to be a party
to any clowning that some so-called wrestlers may care to indulge in. From recent happenings it is obvious that followers of wrestling in Johannesburg are to be treated to another heavyweight campaign. There is no doubt that when it comes to spectacular work the heavyweights are miles in front of tho lighter men, but unfortunately Johannesburg has been visited by men of weight who wero not men of dash and science, and so heavyweights have not been altogether popular there. However, the brilliant displays of Bob Kruse have heartened the Transvaal National Sporting Club so much that it has been decided to develop worthy opponents for the rather temperamental Robert who is a great wrestler but still has managed to make himself extremely unpopular with the fans.
