FORTHCOMING- SESSION LIKELY TO BE LENGTHY
On Tuesday afternoon the quarterly sitting of the Supreme Court at Palmerston North is to commence, and it promises to bo of about four weO'ks’ duration.
Included in the list of e>ses, four arc criminal, involving allegations of rape, theft of various articles of clothing, a joint charge of breaking and entering by day with ' intent to commit a crime, one of alleged breaking and entering and theft (two counts) and placing explosive matter in a building. One prisoner, who pleaded guilty in the Lower Court to theft, will appear for sentence. Five civil actions will be heard before the Judge and a jury of 12. There will be six civil actions heard before his Honour alone, while there will be 11 petitions for decree nisi, restitution of conjugal rights, and divorce on the grounds of desertion and separation. There are three motions for discharge from bankruptcy, and two appeals under the Destitute Persons Act, against tho making of an affiliation order in tho one instance and against the making of separation and guardianship orders in the other. Further, there is a claim under the Family Protection Act for the securing of an annuity and other provisions in an estate and a petition under the Aged and Infirm Persons Act, 1912.
