Ducks are reported to be very numerous on the big waters, flocks of up to 1000 having been observed. Close to Palmerston North there urc very few grey ducks, mallard being the principal tonants of the Awapuui, Hokowhitu and Keeble’s lagoons. <3> <3> <S> <s■ “In November last there passed away from our midst a layman, Mr Alan Skorman, whoso name is revered by all. Right back to tho infant days of the parish he began his splendid work, and for 57 years served the church with a devotion never surpassed,” said the vicar of All Saints’ Church, Palmerston North (Canon G. Y. Woodward), in presenting his annual report to parishioners last evening. ‘ T doubt if his work was ever equalled ,in the whoio province of the Church in New Zealand,” lie added, in paying eulogistic tribute to the deceased gentleman.
