The referee of tho St. Pat.'s-Wood-villo game at Woodvillo ou Saturday last (Mr A. J. Fulton) advised having ordered Madgwick, a St. Pat. ’s player, off the field. Madgwick -was present at tho meeting and said ho had not struck at tho Woodvillo half, as alleged by tho referee, but had caught him across the faco with his open hand, while cudeavouring to tackle the half. The Woodvillo captain had been at a .loss to know why lie had been put off. Mr Fulton, also in attendance, said be had previously warned Madgwick for swearing and talking fight, and in his opinion Madgwick had gone after tho half with his closed fist. Mr Hickey said ho had been an eyewitness of tho incident, and was of opinion tho referee had made a mistake. Ho saw Madgwick’s hand go out, but purely to collar tho half. Mr Bly thought a warning would be sufficient punishment for Madgwick, seeing it was tho first game of the season. Ho moved accordingly and Mr Crawford seconded. Tho chairman said ho would like to get the views of tho halfback on the incident before deciding the matter. Mr Egliuton was of tho same opinion, and moved an amendment along those linos, Mr Low seconding.

Six voted for tho amendment and six for the motion. The chairman's casting vote was in favour of the amendment, and in the mcantimo Madgwick will have to stand down. It felt it should have prior claim to all players residing in tho To Kawau area. Mr Bowler said that both Feilding and F. 0.8. clubs would be hard put to it to find players if the request were agreed to. The chairman said the union's attitude Oiad always been to allow country players to come into town to play if they wanted to. It was also mentioned that there was nothing to prevent town players playing for Te Kawau. Te Kawau is to be informed the request cannot bo complied with. To Kawau also suggested that its season’s passes be recognised for games in Manawatu territory where its teams might bo playing. —Decided to recognise official passes, but not season tichcts.
