From Our Own Correspondent. At the weekly practice shoot of the .Miniature ltifle Club, J. Day was successful in recording- a double possible other scores wore as under:—J. Garlick 00, 09— 19S; G. Day 99, 96—195: J. Garllclc 97, 95 19"; 11, Eddie 93, 95—1 SS; R. Day 91, 96 IST; C. Davis 94, 93—187; W. Eising 96, 91— IS"; G. Achison 95, S9—lS4; C. Dowse 90, 90— ISO. The committee of the Women’s Institute met on Friday afternoon, Mrs W. G. Eising presiding. There were also present Mesdanies. C. Garlick, W,, Day, H. Eddie and Misses F. Ness, A. Sargent and H. Beech. • Some preliminary arrangements were made.for a social evening to bo held in May. The object of this function is to raise funds for dressing the Christmas tree. Various other matters in connection with tlie institute were discussed also. The Annual Poppy Day appeal met with good response this year.

Golf. Golfing enthusiasts have been engaged recently in putting the new course on Mr F. C. Ebbett’s property, in order for play. A great deal of work has been done and the committee is to bo congratulated on the improved conditions of the links as a whole, theso being practically ready for opening. Opening day which is eagerly looked forward to, is now not far distant. Owing to frequent light rains, pastures have shown marvellous growth during the past few weeks and their vivid greShness gives the impression of Spring rather than of Autumn.

Mrs .T. Gregory has gone to Wellington on a visit to lier mother. Mr A. Mitchell is taking a holiday in the Taranaki province. Mrs John Vilo of Pahiatua and formerly of Makomako spent a few days .recently in the. district visiting old friends’ here. She was staying with Mrs F. Groves. Mrs W. Davies of Wanganui who was the guest last week of Mrs J. Groves has gone on to Wellington. Mrs N. Davis and infant are Wanganui visitors to Mrs. O. Sontag. Sir and Mrs F. It. Ebbett of Auckland are the guests of Mi's F. Ebbett. Miss Joyce Ebbett and Miss Klvie Williams of Palmerston North spent the Easter vacation with the former’s parents. Miss Brcndo Wylio is home _ from Wanganui College for the Easter holidays.
