Tho second match of llio series for the Horowhenua Rugby Assoeintion’s coinpetition was played at Opiki on April 28. The contesting teams were members of tho Foxton Fire Brigade and Opiki. The gamu was witnessed by another largo gathering- of spectators whose keen interest is encouraging to a newly-fonncd team, and augers well for the future of tho local football club. Tho match was played in a line spirit throughout and practically all tho members of tho Opiki team showed an improvement on tho first game played against Shannon. The score at half-time was Foxton 11 .Opiki 0. In the second halt Jensen gained a try for Opiki and when the final whistle went the score was in Foxton’s favour, 11 —8. The local forward pack especially played a good game but moret combination is needed still among the whole team. The personal oi the Opiki team was as follows: S. Oiaridgo (capt.), Cook, I. Morgan, Judd, Kelting, Coley, E. Kay, Coley, H. Southee, 13. MacCulloch, Jensen, Simpson, Lewis. The ladies provided much appreciated afternoon tea at tho conclusion- of the match. Tho Tokomaru Basketball Team intend playing a return match againso Opiki on May 2. The selection of the Opiki team was made at a practice on Saturday. It is understood that Mr 11. Seifert and iir AV. Jackson have accepted nomination to stand for the Tokomaru Hiding Council. It is to be hoped that arrangements will be made to have a polling booth In Opiki on Slay 8, for the convenience of ratepayers. Personal. Mr and Sirs J. Goodins and family were recent visitors to Opiki, staying as the guests of Sir and Mrs AYisneski; The friends of Sir and Sirs J. J 3. Aileliison will bo pleased to know that Ray will be leaving hospital, and is expected nomo this week. The friends of Sir Iv. Sandilands will be pleased to learn that he is making satisfactory progress towards recovery. Sir and Sirs J. It. Nairn and family of Hawera stayed over the week-end as the guests of Sir and Sirs J. Cooksley. Sir Nairn attended the reunion of the Wellington Regiment in Palmerston North on Saturday evening. Sir H. Karss is spending a holiday in Auckland. Sir and Mrs L. Webb were recent visitors to Dannevirko.
