Goldfields in Fiji Find of the Century
ENORMOUS APPRECIATION IN VALUE OF SHARES Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. The discovery of the Fiji goldfields was undoubtedly tho find of the century, said Mr P. Costello, of Suva, on being interviewed on the arrival of the Monowai from Sydney to-day. The finding of the Tavua fioi'd, he said, was due to one man, W. Borthwiek, whose experience was gained at Wailii. There were now six mines there and there might be more. Share prices were going up. When he arrived in Melbourne Aloha £lO shares were selling at £2-1; a fortnight later buyers were offering £650 and sellers asking £9OO. Mr Costello, who is interested in the development of the mines, has been in Fiji for 26 years. He leaves Auckland on Saturday on his return.
