War Game in the Pacific

Manoeuvres by the American Navy

A LESSON FOR JAPAN

/ United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. SAN PEDRO, April 28. In the early liours of to-morrow norning 134 ships anchored here will steam northward as a preliminary move in the greatest naval manoeuvres in American history, which will cover £,000,000 square miles in the so-called “Pacific triangle,’' that is, between California, the Aleutian Islands, and Hawaii. The manoeuvres will last from May 3 to Juno 10. _ The war game, which is technically called “Fleet Problem No. 16,” wul involve about 100 ships, 450 aeroplanes, and 50,000 officers and men. Tho forces are divided into two fleets. One will head westward from San Francisco in tho direction of Hawaii, while the other will proceed northward and acting under sealed orders will carry out extensive defensive and offensive operations. The fact of such large manoeuvres being held in the general direction of Japanese waters has caused many protests by Pacifist groups in America.
