Charge Against Hotel Licensee

BETTING BY BARMAID IN PRIVATE BAR Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. Thomas Ebenezer Robinson, licensee of Tattersali’s Hotel, pleaded not guilty in the Aiagistratc’s Court to-day to a charge of knowingly and wilfully allowing the private bar of his hotel to be used as a common gaming-house. The prosecution followed the conviction of a barmaid, Helen Gunn, who ten days ago was lined £4O and ordered to pay costs for using the private bar at the hotel as a common gaming-house. The ovidenco for the prosecution stated that Robinson had been present when Gunn took the bets. This Robinson in evidence denied. Decision was reserved.
