Foxton Harbour Board To Convert its Loans

PRELIMINARY STEPS TAKEN Preliminary steps for the conversion of loans aggregating £12,960 15s 6d, were taken yesterday by the Poxton Harbour Board, when it resolved to issue new securities in conversion of the existing securities issued in respect of certain loans. The new debentures will be issued on June 1.

Those present wore Messrs J. Linklater, M.P. (in tho chair), W. E. Barber, P. W. Goldsmith, H. Osborne, F. G. Kellow and J. A. Nash, M.P. The chairman expressed pleasure that all members had been returned unopposed, indicating a large measure of public confidence. It was to bo regretted that Mr Kellow was not able to continue his services, as he had made an invaluable contribution to the administration. Howeve,r, his successor, Mr W. E. Carthew, would also make an excellent member, being keenly interested in Manawatu heads. Mr Nash added his tribute to the work done for the board by Mr Kellow, and appreciation of his services was placed on record. Mr Goldsmith was also congratulated on being returned unopposed to the Levin Mayoralty. The Marino Department advised that it had reappointed Mr Bailees as Government representative on the board. Captain A. Nelson, harbourmaster, advised that ho wished his resignation to become effective from May 22.

Appreciation of Captain Nelson’s services was expressed, the chairman saying he had been an excellent officer He was leaving to assumo command of a boat on the Blenhcim-'We'flington route. It was decided to call applications for a successor. The report of the pilot said that during March there were 10 arrivals and nine departures; no difficulty was experienced in crossing tho bar. From the Automobile Association (Manawatu) was received a number of questions as to cost, contributions and maintenance of tho Foxton beach sub sidiary meeting.—Messrs Linklater and Nash were asked to confer with Mr N. 11. Mackie, president of the Automobile Association to discuss tho matter.
