Air. AV. AVard presided over a full attendance of members at a meeting of the Kauwhata Ladies’ Hockey Club. The object of the meeting was to make final arrangements for the entry of the team iii the Alanawatu competitions. It was found that there were sufficient players to carry on. It Avas also suggested that some function be promoted to raise funds, but owing to the work being carried out to materialise the ambition of the komih marae to install electric lights m me Kauwhata meeting house, it was decided to leave the propect in abeyance. In the meantime a competition will be promoted. It Avas also decided that the hockey club should assist in some small way the KauAvhata Improvement Committee in O* expense incurred Avhen the electric lights are installed in the meeting house. AVhen Mr. and Airs. M. B. Bennett returned home last Alonday night, they found that some irresponsible person or persons had streAvn their bed-room Avit.ii handfuls of pebbles. If it was meant for a joke, then it Avas a very poor one. it was found that the pebbles had been thrown through the AvindoAV, Avhich Avas left open. Anzac Day passed off very quietly, it is a pity that some local body could not be organised to haA'e services held here, as there are many returned soldiers in the district who would no doubt be willing to co-operate. It is occasio t; like these, held sacred throughout the Dominion, that should receive the recognition of any community, and if in future an effort in this direction is made, the district will not be far behind in its support.
