jj’rom Our Own Correspondent, Anzac Day Observance.

I'jjo annual commemoration ceremony In connection with Anzac Day, commenced locally with a procession headed by the l-i'oxton Silver Band and returned soldiers. The parade, which was marshalled by Lieutenant J. l'\ Riches, assembled at tne council chambers and marched to the town hall, where a service was held which was largely attended by local and district residents. Following upon the playing of the .National Anthem, the Deputy-mayor, Sir. John Boss, made reference to the memorable occasion. His remarks were followed by the singing of the hymn, ”U God Our Help in Ages Past,” after which Captain Bead delivered an appropriate prayer. The hymn •'Head, Kindly Light" was then sung, followed by a Scripture reading by the Bev. A. Fotheringham (Presbyterian). An inspiring address was delivered by the Bov. C. W. Brown (Methodist), after which the hymn "0 Valiant Hearts” was sung. The benediction was pronounced by the Bev. Potheringham, followed by a retiring collection. The gathering then adjourned to the triangle, where the ceremony of the laying of wreaths on the war memorial was carried out by returned soldiers, Brownies, Boy Scouts and members of the Foxton Silver Band. In addition there were many floral tributes from members of the general public. At the triangle the Poxton Silver aßnd played the hymn, vale Mater.” The service concluded with the sounding of the Last Post by Captain Bead. Personal. Mrs. C. D. Nelson, who lor the past tw o and a half years has occupied die position as harbourmaster and pilot to the Paxton Harbour Board, has tendered his resignation. Captain Nelson has accepted a position as shipmaster with a slnpping firni in Wellington, and leaves to take up Ins duties at the latter end of May. Air E W. Thane and Miss Bita inane are at. present spending a holiday in Auckland.. . . . Services Appreciated. At a successful dance held iii tlie bcacb hall under the auspices of the Beach Fire Brigade, opportunity was taken to Present Alrf Mary Boss with a token of thanks from the committee for the assistance she had rendered In the past at these functions. The presentation yvas-mado by Mr A Alsop, who spoke of the willing ness Mrs. Boss had always shown in offering her talents on such occasions, which was much appreciated. Tho gay Cordons was won by Mr. F. Rput and McPhail, while the Monte Carlo was by Mr. F. Rout and Mrs. London. The duties of Master of Ceremonies were carried out by Mr. A. Alsop. Euchre and Dance.
