Peppy Day Collections in Wellington
AMOUNT ABOVE LAST YEAR Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. Poppy Day street collections on Thursday proved most successful. The takings by Wellington city and auxiliary committees amounted to £774 Is lid, which is £75 above last year. No results have yet been received from outlying districts—Ketone, Hutt, and Porivua. Over 100 poppies were ordered for Government House, where, at Lord Galway’s request, everyone in the household wore a poppy. Appeal by Christobm'-’b R..S.A. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. Approximately £IOOO had been received late on Thursday night from the Poppy Day street appeal by the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association for the relief of distress among returned men. It is expected that, the total will be increased to at least £1250 when nil returns come in. Last year’s total was £1336. Collections at Auckland AUCKLAND, Last Night. Poppy Day street appeal in Auckland on 'Thursday amounted to £1286, as against £1272 last year. AVhen the returns from the smaller districts are received, it is expected that the total will reach £I3OO.
