Work on Feidling's Airport
ENGAGEMENT OF RELIEF WORKERS FINALISED.
Work on the laying out of Fcilding’s airport at Taonui is to commence on -Monday, April 29, when, as a commencement of tho major job of levelling and draining tire big flying field, 20 men will be put ou. On Thursday morning the district engineer of the Public Works Department visited Fcdlding to arrange for the engagement of the necessary labour and consulted with the borough engineer (Mr. T. Iv. Hay) regarding the local relief workers. The initial work, it is understood, will have Lo do with the provision cl surface water drainage, and as this ; . ; develops, more men will be engaged i. proceed with the levelling of the ground. Several trees require to be felled and this work will be proceeded with right away. As far as possible, labour for the whole work will bo drawn from the ranks of the unemployed and those men on sustenance will have an equal opportunity, as the work develops and the need for more men arises, of securing engagement. The work of making the aerodrome is being carried out by the club in conjunction with the Defence Department and the Public Works Department.
