Punters Set Many Problems At Eller site

Acceptances are Good with Plenty of ' Form Horses Engaged :

One of the most important, if not the most important of the Easter carnivals is the Auckland Racing Club’s autumn meeting which opens at Ellerslie to-day. The principal first-day events are the Easter , Handicap and the Great Northern Champagne Stakes, the former over a , mile and the latter over six furlongs. As is usual at Ellerslie the fields • are big and the winners well concealed, t

After a lengthy spell of fine weather the Ellerslie course should be in firsjtclass order for the meeting and there should be some bright racing. The Ester Handicap acceptors total two dozen, but the field will bo reduced considerably by starting time as a number of the horses claim other ei\'agements. Kiltowvn is top-weight with 9.5 and although he is spoken of as a likely winner, very few horses have carried over 9.0 to victory in this race. The Wood-ville-trained. Red Manfred, is in receipt of 71bs., and after his Awapuni win, he cannot be left out of calculations on the scoro of weight. Rulanut, though the early favourite, is under a cloud because of having developed soreness, but fit and well he would prove a tough one to crack. Diatomous is on the same handicap as Rulanut, but he may be all the better for the race. King Musk is well in and if he begins well he will have a show with this field. He has been galloping well, however, and will have friends to-day. Further down the list Gay Seton and Gipsy Moth, two brilliant sprinters, catch the eye, and they are bound to be in demand. Mother Suporior and Kelly are others that should go the distance and they are handily placed with 7.6. Of the others Impasto, Scotland and Imamint may ■ claim most attention. Three that may most appeal are Red Manfred, Kelly, Rulanut. The betting will be with the single pool and the two dividends (75 and 25 per cent.) will be paid in fields of six and over. In the other events, horses which maj' have a following are:— G.N. Oaks: Gay Blonde, Namakia, President’s Handicap: Gay Marigold, Sir Abb, Mungatoon. Brighton Hurdles: Verden-Billy Boy bracket, Val Watch, Wee Pat. G.N. Champagne Stakes; Gay Sheik, Galilee, Haut Monde. Mangere Steeplechase: Ruby Meteor, Thespis, London. Onslow Stakes: Tai Yang, Plato, Happy Landing. Eden Handicap: Worohia, Keith Lu, Tray Bit. RACING .FIXTURE 3. April 20—Tuapeka J.C. April 20, 22—Wairarapa, E.C. April 20, 22—Feilding J.C.
