Good Quality Fields Carded For Feilding To-day

Meeting Should Prove Attraction To Racing Enthusiasts

The Feilding Racing Club’s Easter meeting is due to open to-day and remarkably good fields have been carded. The principal events are the Manchester and Mangaone Handicaps in which class is well represented. Taken right through the fields are well balanced and first-class racing should result. The betting will be conducted on the single pool system with two dividends (75 and 25 per cent) in fields of over four starters.

The iirst race on the programpie, the Kawakawa Hurdles, is timed to start at 12 noon, and seven horses have been carded. The class is pretty good and the issue fairly open. Henry of Navarre is top-weight and although ho may be all the better for a race, he is not to be taken lightly for he has been schooling well at Awapuni and he looks well. Chile is another that has been off the scene for some time, but he won the Cheltenham Hurdles on this course in December. Sunny Song and Headland, however, have plenty of recent form and they w r ili be supported. Of the others Harvest Moon may be preferred though Park Acre io likely to upset the pool. The betting may point to Sunny Song, Chile, Headland.

THE ACCEPTANCES

With Merry Way, Lapel, Kurapac, Ecipar, Gold Mission and Leprechaun engaged, the Ongo Hack should be a good betting race and the winner is well concealed. The three that may make most appeal, however, appear to be Leprechaun, Gold Mission, Kurapac. Cuddle, Chief Marionette and Kuri arc accepted for tho Manchester, but the first two arc also in at Eiccarton, while Kuri was hurt when he broke away at New Plymouth last Saturday. II they do start, however, the three of them will have to be taken into account. Aga Khan, who won the Wanganui Cup with 5.9, is reported to be well, also Pladie and Miss Hushabvc, while Trishna won at New Plymouth. If started Cuddle will probably be favourite, but in her absence the punters may elect to go for Aga Khan and Pladie.

The Maiden Stakes field is bound to prove a puzzle and in the absence of placed performances the public may go for Orac, Gay Boy, Autumn Leaf. The open sprint, the Mangaone Handicap, will be run at a fast clip and with this field anything is likely to happen. Souchong and Porotiti are the topweights and Souchong should be able to make it hard for the others with only S.S on his back. Eefrcsher and Boughal arc recent winners, while Tho Tiger showed ho was not far from his best

at New Plymouth. On the minimum is Bodyliue, who has been galloping well at Awapuni. Whichever way it goes there will be a close finish and the punters may hope to see the colours of Souchong, The Tiger, Boughal, when (hey are racing down on the judge.

A smart lot of youngsters have been carded for the Taonui Nursery and pride of place has been given to Severe, one of the best, it not the best, two-year-olds of the year. She will be bracketed with Entail and Lattice and tho trio will not be neglected on the machine. Of the others there will be Fulojoy, Alchemic, Finncsko and Romp Along to add to the interest, and wlicn the machine has dosed it may be found that the Severe bracket, Fulojoy and

Finnesko have been backed in that order.

The Oncpuhi Hack should prove another interesting race and Tahurangi, Round Score, Ingenuily, Onewhetu anJ Timorous are all bound to command a following. Three likely to carry most money are Tahurangi, Onewhetu and Round Score. The clay will conclude with tho Halcombo Handicap over seven furlongs. Tho top-weight, Sanguine King, should be about ready to give of his best, but strong opposition is likely to be pro vided by Pomp, Boughal, Midian, Refresher and Limulus. The issue is veryopen, but three likely to make most appeal are Boughal, Refresher and Sanguine King.
