Feilding’s Railway Business
ANNUAL RETURNS REVEAL BIG IMPROVEMENT.
Under practically every heading Bedding's railway business over the twelve months ended March 31 showed an, improvement on tho figures recorded for tlio previous year. Yesterday, Mr. Finlay, stationmaster, made available the returns for the year just closed and these certainly indicate that the business handled was considerably greater than for tho previous year. Outward passengers totalled 21,582, as against 21,447 for the previous year and tho revenue from this source amounted to £5899, as against £5698.
In the matter of live stock the improvement ivas very large, as the following figures disclose: Cattle and calves, 17,657 (0199); sheep and pigs. 236,171 (189,409). In the goods department 14,335 tons were handled outwards as against 14,272 tons for tho previous twelve months. Parcels revenue totalled £606 as against £555. Goods revenue amounted to £27,263 as against £23,947, while the total revenue on account of outward transactions amounted to £34,294 as against £30,660. Dealing with the inward business stock traffic despite the cessation of the bobby calf industry was bigger than ever. Cattle and calves totalled 15,602 as against 32,147, wliilo sheep and pigs numbered 176,835 as against 105,866. During the year 2942 tons of timber was received at the station as against 2589 tons for tho previous year, while goods business amounted to 26,156 tons compared with 20,923 tons. The inward parcels revenue amounted to £SO9 compared with £636 and goods revenue £28,400 compared with £26,144. The total revcuuo amounted to £29,309 as against £26,780.
