Th monthly meeting of the Pohangina Valley branch of the Dairy Farmers’ Union was held at Raumai .on Saturday evening, Mr. J. D. Balmer presiding over an average attendance. The president re- ; ported that as a result of the organising campaign, 58 new members had been secured in the district and one area was yet to be canvassed. Following a discussion on the marketing of butter in Great Britain, it was decided to inquire from the executive •committee whether the Co-operative Wholesale Society of England handies New Zealand butter and cheese, and if not, the branch suggests that every endeavour should be made to : induce it to do so. Mr. Balmer reported I that an examination of white butterfly : chrysalides had been carried out in the valley by Mr. J. Muggeridge. Every chrysalis examined had contained the pu- : Parum parasite which apparently had spread very rapidly since its liberation a few weeks ago A splendid autumn growth is to be seen on pasture lands and dairy production is being well maintained. Some cases of facial excema in sheep are reported in parts of the valley, but in most cases only a few sheep in a flock are affected.

Swedes and kindred crops appear to be recovering from the onslaughts of the white, butterfly and diamond backed moth. In the case of the earlier sown crops in particular there appea® to be every reason to hope for return from the area.
