- From Our Own Correspondent. Friday evening local residents and friends of the Hampson family gathered in the local hall to bid them farewell. Mr. Hampson, who is a railway employee, has been transferred, to ICopaki and leaves at an early date to take up his new duties, after serving at Linton for the last fourteen years. The chief attraction for the ovening was dancing, music being supplied by the local orchestra, extras being played by Miss Ruth and Pat Terry, Messrs. J. Xj. Nash and N. Greer. Mr. O. L. Davies officiated as M.C. After supper was served Mr. M. Rix, on behalf of the residents, asked Mr. and Mrs. Hampson to accept a substantial cheque as an appreciation of their support and services to all local sports bodies during their residence in Linton. He also wished them both and their family every happiness and success for the future. Mr. Hampson suitably responded and all joined in singing “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows.” Mrs. T. Lynch, on behalf of the Linton Women's Institute, asked Mr. Hampson, who has been a member from the beginning of Institute movement in Linton, to accept a sandwich dish as a parting gift, and hoped she would continue her interest in her new place of residence and if thero were not already an Institute al Kopaki, she would get busy and form one. Mr. Hampson replied on behalf of Mrs. Hampson. Miss Ruth Terry, on behalf of the basketball team, spoke glowingly of Miss Betty Hampson as a very keen member of the team and said her follow players would miss her cheerful personality as well as her support as a player. She asked her to accept a crystal vase. Miss Betty Sampson suitably responded amidst applause. The gathering was brought to a happy ending in the early hours. The district received a very welcome rainfall over the week-end and the pastures are looking wonderful already. Mushrooms are not very plentiful but are looked for daily by those who delight in this table dish. Mrs. J. L. Nash journeyed to Wellington on Saturday last to attend the races thero. Mrs. Beale, who met with an accident some weeks ago, is much improved in health and is spending a holiday in Masterton as the guest of her sister, Mrs. Bernie.
