Final Preparations For Manawatu

AWAPUNI TRACK WORK WAS INTERESTING YESTERDAY

GOOD TIMES REGISTERED

With a largo number of horses in attendance there was plenty of intonating work at Awapuni yesterday nuu.'ning and the times, considering that .the going was not fast and that the gallops were done on the outside of the course proper, were good, The course w-'fijs in very lino order and it should provide an excoilent convincing ground four today’s races. 't’hc morning was line, with a suggestion of frost in tfce air and there was no. wind. One of tho first to work was Bound Score and he was given six fur’/mgs in the moonlight, hitting out freedy.

Next wero Suuce and lted ffun with light boys up and the other sun was just tinting the sky when t.hc'y hopped away short of tho six furlongs. They wero together all the way and they were doing their work well t« complete the journey in 1.19 3-5. I’augo and The Droue then galloped seven furlongs and there was little between them nt the post is.fter taking 1.36 1-5.

A very useful sprint upas that in which Glcnvaue and Refresher were associated. They both hat out freely and ran to the post in LI9 4-5, time, considering the Avay they were moving at the finish, which could have been improved upon. Refresher figures in the J.M. Johnston. Memorial and Glenvane in the Prince of Wf'ales Handicap. Note Issue was galiuped seven furlongs, but was not agaiinst the watch. Tudor and Miss Pango scampered over six furlongs in 1.2.1 8-5, Miss Pango holding a short, neck advantage at the finish.

Burnish and Entail were sprinted five furlongs from a fairly flat-footed start and they were on terms at the post, taking I.S 3-5 for tho distance. Burnish avbs doing it easily at the finish, the last three furlongs beiDg put behind in 11 8-5.

Hunting Scene (G. Tattersall), Finnesko (Masefield) and Eompalong (Ireland) finished in that order at the end of half a mile on the hurdle track, the time taken being 51 1-5. Bovero (R. Reed) had Corruboreo (R. Ghislioim) as a companion over six furlongs on (lie course proper. They were practically uu terms for the first part but (Severe drew away in the straight to win. by a couple of lengths. The first three furlongs took 39 2-5, and tho full distance 1.20 1-5, quite a, good gallop. Severe may be one of Mm fancied candidates for (lie Cloverlea Nur-

sery. Lord Mouloa was about a length irv. front of Full Throttle (W. E. Pine) a.t the end of six furlongs put behind m 1.21 .1-5. Marching Gong (G. Tattersall) bud Aiguille (L. H. Pine) as a compardon for a seven furlong flutter, but Aiguille bled and Avas of no use to Marching Song over the last bit, the latter tanking 1.36 1-5 for tho full distance. Happy Landing was sprintckl five furlongs, beiug accompanied by Waitohu over tho last three. There Avas little between them at the post thanks to a nice finishing effort by Waitofiu. Happy Landing took 1.7 1-5 for the five and 40 1-5 for the last threeEvasion . Avas gi\’cn a six furlong flutter, not being under pressure at any stage. Nightly and Sporting Blood One of the most interesting gallops of tho morning was that in which Nightly (W. J. Broughton) and, Sporting Blood (L. 11. Jones) Avere associated. It was over six tnriongs on the course proper. Nightly was making a bit of noise but he was galloping freely enough and they were together at the post after taking 1.20 2-s—a good gallop.

Sweet Music ami Taumaix were together at the end of six run in 1.22, and Sweet Music ivas going easily over the last bit. Korokio and Rust were given a similar task ami they were not required to do their best to complete the distance in 1.22. Count Willonyx and Oynola scampered over fnc furlongs in 1.7 3-5. A Smart Five Legatee, who will be required to carry 9.6 in the Cloverlea Nursery, was given a try out over five furlongs and with R. Reed in the saddle the brilliant colt cut the distance out in 1.4 4-s—a really fine effort. Cometa and Bodyline were timed to rim live furlongs in 1.7 3-5. Awapuni Cup Candidate Tho winner of the 1934 A.waputu Cup and fancied candidate for MU s year’s race, Silver Ring, was sprinted seven furlongs with 1.. H. <J ones up. He hit out very freely and was not troubled to complete the distance in 1.32 3-5, and last five taking him. 1.5 2-5. He should be in good fettle for to-da.y’s race. Passion Flower Avas doing it very easily at the end of a half mile flutter with Tidal Song. The time was comparatively slow —55secs. —but it Avas a very-nice gallop. II Dime and Happy Hunting, the tivo-year-olds who will carry Mr J. S. McLeod’s colours in the Cloverlea Nursery, scampered over three furlongs in 38 1-5 and they were going very nicely at (he finish. Rcrepai’s Half Mile Rerepai (J. McMally) was sprinted half a mile, and he galloped brilliantly, to cut the distance out in 52secs.
