The Times’ Calcutta correspondent say's that the magnitude of the problem of middle-class unemployment in Calcutta was exemplified when 10,000 men applied for eight temporary vacancies in the new Reserve Bank, which was besieged by a crowd overflowing into the street, blocking traffic. An official was compelled to climb out of a window to seek police assistance,
